As a valued member of our team, reporting directly to the Director, Precinct Properties, you will collaborate closely with a dynamic group of Designers, Project Managers, Consultants, Contractors and Facility Maintenance professionals.  

This position requires the individual to work in the office full-time.

What You’ll Do

You’ll act with integrity to:

  • Oversee and execute in-house design projects including Capital Projects and renovations, ensuring adherence to budget, timeline and conservation principles
  • Manage the full design process, from initial project planning and the development of detailed construction drawings, to tendering and comprehensive contract administration services
  • Assess feasibility studies, building condition assessments, budgets and construction methods and ensure that all designs meet applicable standards, codes and guidelines
  • Prepare scope of work documents for Request for Proposals and Request for Tenders for retaining external consulting and/or contracting services, evaluate proposals, recommend suitable consultants or contractors, and support the approval process

You’ll support our collaboration as you:

  • Select and manage external consultants and/or contractors for the design of capital projects and renovations
  • Liaise with Precinct Properties staff and establish good working relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Liaise with various external stakeholders such as Provincial Government Agencies, Ontario Heritage Trust, Heritage Toronto, and City of Toronto where required
  • Participate on the branch management team and ensure effective representation of project needs and concerns
  • Participate in the development of the branch budget to provide input on the annual capital plan and non-recurring programs

How You Qualify

You demonstrate excellence through your:

  • Completion of a college diploma or bachelor's degree in interior design and/or a minimum of 4 years relevant work experience
  • Proven competency in the preparation of technical design drawings and specifications, budgets, and schedules
  • Strong competency in reading and understanding construction drawings, shop drawings, and diagrams.
  • Knowledge of standards and guidelines for conservation of historic places is an asset
  • Proven competency in the application of relevant legislation including Ontario Building Code, Accessibility of Ontarians with Disabilities Act, electrical, fire, mechanical and plumbing codes
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat
  • Proven competency in AutoCAD software application
  • Working knowledge of Bluebeam, Revit and/or Sketch Up is an asset
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills and the capacity to provide authoritative and expert advice regarding space planning & building management
  • Must possess strong documentation and reporting skills and excellent oral communication skills
  • Registered members of ARIDO or current members in good standing with an equivalent professional organization are considered an asset
